Smarty Pants.
Anyone else buy clobber from there back in the day?

I did often until an Ellesse polo shrunk and they wouldn't do anything about it 😥

Especially as it had actually stretched under the strain of you wearing it.

Thought so Norwich but wasn't 100% sure , my mate bought his first pringle there but put it in a tescos carrier bag in case he got " taxed " on the way home ! lol

Bought my first Pringle in Davis at Whitechapel. About £55 which was big dough then.

I will always remember my old dear coming from shopping with something for me from Smarty pants. My eyes lit up, thought I was going to be the proud owner of a Lacoste roll neck, instead she pulled out this fucking sweater made by Benger. Fucking Benger?

Anyway I wore it and told everyone it was the next big thing. It never took off.

Big dough indeed, got a pair of diadora borg elite trainers one Christmas were about the same price as your pringle ,don't think my dad has recovered yet after my mum told him how much ! ,saying that they did look the nuts with my jumbo lois cords though . Must be about thirty years ago how scary is that.

Haha, Davis' Whitechapel. Blimey.
Used to buy clobber in there (me father in law worked in there a few years later. Fuckin few years too late!).
There was a shop opp along the 'waste' used to sell Gabicci cardigans etc as well. (Another old front wheel shop, Conrich?)
And we used to get the wexmans etc in Tobias Jones and Whistles, Bethnal Green.

Yet tell me own saucepans now "you must be mad spending that much.........!!)

The shop down Green Street was Rita's. I always preferred Smarty Pants myself.

I too used to get Wexmanns, the legs would be unfinished and they would fit them for you. I did get told years later Wexmanns were an East London thing and never made it to the other side of the Thames. Anyone heard the same?

My old man bought me a Prince of Wales check suit for my first interview when I left school. Told the bloke we want something smart, not with the sleeves rolled up. I think he'd watching Miami Vice too much at the time.

The big burger place on the corner after the station was decent I think it was called Trumps.

Didn't know there was more than one. Went to the one in Queens Market with my dad and he got my brother and me some Lonsdale sweat shirts.

Use to go Granitiers in East Ham for clobber, also another gaff on the hill opposite East Ham station which for the life of me I can't remember. Did Ocean Pacific T shirts etc

Re: Smarty Pants.
The old man hated that shop

He used to buy all my clothes from there , he's face when he had to pay

Always the same saying "buy a fucking car for less than this lot cost me"

Re: Smarty Pants.
On the subject of remembering stuff, there was a burger van outside queens market with what I thought at the time was a fit bird serving, although I was only about 14 at the time and she was considerably older, must've been mid to late eighties.
